about rasamaya
The Rasamaya® Method is “intelligent movement.” Rasamaya® works to balance your body between flexibility, core strength, muscle tone, and stability. When these are balanced the benefit to you is obvious - tranquil mind, strong body and the resiliency to cope with whatever life throws at you.
Carrie Tyler
Carrie is a twenty plus year veteran of teaching movement. Her roots began in professional dance before she devoted her life to teaching yoga, Pilates, barre and aerial arts. She specializes in women's body language, chronic structural pain and pelvic health in her private practice. She is known for her playful style of teaching, strong knowledge of anatomy and alignment, and her deep understanding of yogic philosophy and subtle energetics. She is an initiate of the Aghor Yoga Lineage whose non-denominational principles emphasize the celebration of personal freedom, daily meditation practice and selfless service, which she considers the grounding ethics in her life. Carrie considers all forms of movement and complimentary healing therapies to be preventative medicine, and that self-care and regular practice can reconcile many imbalances and dis"eases" of the body.
She created her own movement methodology called Rasamaya, which translates as "fluid" in Sanskrit and explores life through the lens of the emotions. Rasamaya offers classes, workshops, and teacher training in anatomy, yoga, Pilates, barre, structural therapy and aerial arts. She is the owner of three booming Rasamaya studios in the United States. In addition to Rasamaya, she is also the Northeast Teacher Trainer for Pfilates (pelvic floor Pilates).
Carrie regularly presents movement, anatomy and women's empowerment workshops, teacher trainings and retreats both in the US and abroad. She is honored to have been a two time Yoga Journal presenter, and to have her company featured Pilates Style Magazine as well as New Hampshire Chronicle. In her spare time she is a dilettante raw food chef.

TESTIMONIALS ABOUT RASAMAYA® AND CARRIE TYLER
ABOUT RASAMAYA MOVEMENT METHODS & STUDIOS
"I believe that movement is therapy. It triggers endorphins that when released trigger a body mind soul 'feel good'. Movement is a non verbal form of release and Rasamaya believes in and instructs with this deeper purpose. It provides intelligent instructors to guide you in that release. Along with great music you are tansformed. If we can give that gift we are sharing something that can sustain a better sense of self and wellness." - Kristin K.
"It brings together yoga to lengthen and align the bones and joints, with pilates and barre to strengthen and lengthen the muscles. Mixed with breathwork, meditation and fun, Rasamaya is all about making your body juicier, more fluid and stronger."- Tristan B.
“A safe and comfortable place to love myself and explore – Thank You!” - Amberlee T.
"Rasamaya Aerial Yoga is limitless to me. It takes my yoga practice, mind & body to new heights every time." - Jessica F.M
"To me, Rasamaya Yoga is a chance to consistently explore the connection between our emotions and our bodies and how they affect each other. Each time I am on my mat is a chance to release a negative emotion my body is holding on to and open to a positive one - freeing my body and my mind." – Darcy S.
"Rasamaya Yoga is a unique way to open up the body to the subtle energies of life and the chakras. It lets you experience the elements of water, earth, fire and air right in your body while flowing in familiar but carefully sequenced and selected yoga postures. If you love vinyasa yoga and haven't tried Rasamaya Yoga yet, you have to!" Damla A.
"I have seen people from out-of-town, travelling on business, stop in for a single session and say they wished they live closer and I have come to know folks who have dedicated themselves to Rasamaya yoga and are stronger and more flexible now than they were in younger years. Membership makes classes extraordinarily affordable and booking sessions on-line is a snap. Whether you are looking for improved health or a community of friendly people, you will find it Rasamaya Dover." - Victoria C.
"I feel so fortunate to have Rasamaya in Newburyport, for my own body as well as for my patients bodies. As the owner of Active Life Chiropractic, located a few doors down, I see many satisfied clients going in and out of Rasamaya. The Pilates classes are great for posture, core strength and so much more! I personally love Barre classes which have gotten me back into shape after two pregnancies so far and we're working getting me back into shape after my third child. The music is fabulous and the instructors are energetic. The classes are so good that time flies by but you can tell there has been many, many hours put into planning the classes and training the instructors. I highly recommend Rasamaya!" - Jeanine D.
"I have tried pretty much every type of exercise class out there, but nothing has made as great a difference in my strength, flexibility, muscle tone and shape as the barre classes at Rasamaya Newburyport. I've been taking the barre classes for nearly three years now - the longest I've done one kind of exercise regularly - and I am challenged every time. The instructors are amazing and do a tremendous job modifying and tailoring exercises to meet each student's needs. It's like having a personal trainer, but also enjoying the camraderie of a group class. I am also a yoga enthusiast, and Carrie is an exceptional teacher. Her playfulness and kind spirit puts students at ease. I leave every class, whether barre or yoga, feeling energized and restored, mind and body." - Lisa E.

"Training in Rasamaya Structural Therapy really opened my mind and eyes to how people move and how the body evolves a result of our daily lives. It's hard not to see how the slightest changes in movement/how we do things can drastically alter the efficiency of the body. This training is invaluable if you want to become more aware of your own body or if you want to train others in efficient movement. Carrie is a thorough, thoughtful and thought-provoking teacher." Tess S.
ABOUT RASAMAYA FOUNDER, CARRIE TYLER
"Carrie is a fabulous yoga instructor. She is very knowledgeable about proper body alignment in poses and is very versatile in teaching many styles of yoga well. I love taking her classes!" - Angela B.
"Carrie is fabulous. Where do I begin? Carrie is affirming and allows you to feel free in your own body. That freedom gives you the power to reach, explore and move within each exercise and pose. I think it comes from her innate confidence and ability to connect with her own body. It translates perfectly as an instructor. She has amazing energy. Just love Carrie!" - Meghan K.
"Carrie has been my Yoga Instructor in 200-Hour Rasamaya Yoga Teacher Training, in Aerial Fabric, and in other individual classes. Her knowledge of yoga, anatomy, and the structural mechanics of the body is outstanding. As a teacher, she is caring, she is an excellent communicator, and she makes learning fun. As a business woman, she is always looking to improve things, and to create opportunities for herself and for those working with her. I have personally benefitted from her desire to help co-workers and to trust our abilities. She gave me the opportunity to teach a classic form of yoga which I particularly love, a teaching position for which I was somewhat under-qualified. With her help and support, I learned what was necessary and succeeded. I have seen others similarly benefit from Carrie's ability to coach people along to accomplish things they had not thought possible." - Mark T.
"Carrie's extensive knowledge of the anatomy of the human body is remarkable. Her wealth of knowledge in this area, and all other areas of yoga, pilates and structural therapy make her one of the most outstanding movement teachers in New England and beyond." - Rebecca L.
"Carrie's warmth and positive energy radiate from the moment she enters the room. Her inspirational teaching style is grounded in a deep knowledge of anatomy and alignment, with an intelligent focus on core strength." - Diana W.
"I did a 200-hour yoga teacher training with Carrie in 2007-2008. I learned so much from Carrie. Her teaching style is interactive and fun. Carrie's extensive knowledge of anatomy and alignment allows students to explore their potential in a safe and creative way." - Melanie H.
"What sets Carrie apart from other instructors is her therapeutic sense of movement. She practices the mind body balance of movement therapy and applies it to her style. This adds a level of depth to her expertise that is grounded and emotional. It is a whole body practice." - Kristin K.
"Whenever I am in a group class with Carrie, it feels as though we are privately training. She knows exactly which body parts need the most attention and her readings before and after class are always applicable to what's going on in my life. You leave her class feeling comforted, relaxed, and reenergize." - Katie G.
"Carrie is one of those people who can probably do anything she puts her mind to....and well at that! She has a presence as a yoga instructor that feels so completely natural. Her passion, creativity, and joy for life come through in her classes and trainings. The thing that makes Carrie easy to be around is the sense of humility that she holds. All of this and Carrie also has a deep knowledge of anatomy to share. She's great." - Samantha W.
"Carrie brings her vast experience, knowledge and intelligence to each and every facet of all that she does. Her thirst to learn more and reach further, is inspirational. That she accomplishes all of this with a sincere warmth, kindness and friendship; makes her the best, and most special of teachers." - Susan M.
"Carrie is funny, authentic and compassionate. Her depth of experience and knowledge sings out in every class she teaches. Carrie teaches what she knows - and she knows a lot about how the body works and how the emotions and mind work with the body. Carrie is always learning and developing her abilities - she is a joy to study with. You are in good hands, led by a compassionate heart." - Tristan B.
“Carrie is extremely supportive of new yoga teachers, and encourages people to explore their own expressiveness in their teaching” - Rachel S.
"From the moment I met Carrie Tyler I could tell that there was something unique about her approach as a boss and business owner. I felt immediately that she encourages her teachers to be themselves and that she fosters each's creativity and strengths. I truly feel like an equal, though at the same time I am constantly amazed by Carrie's vast knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and basically all there is to know about every modality of movement. Carrie is an incredibly giving person and seems to know how to balance giving as much as she can with successfully running a business. I can honestly say that I look forward to coming to work each and every day. The energy at Carrie's studios is positive and nurturing - I am genuinely excited about my professional path at Rasamaya." -Robin M.

Green Initiative
At Rasamaya®, we are committed to leading a holistic, karmically sound existence. We understand that we are a part of nature, and any harm that we inflict upon the earth is harm inflicted upon ourselves. It is our mission to make a positive impact on our community, as well as on the world at large. We strive for balance: in our practice of yoga, in our minds and in our interactions with the world around us. As our business grows, we continue to take measures to ensure that we are in concord with our surroundings. What measures do we take to stay green?
On the mat:
- Eco-friendly yoga mats for use and purchase
- Cork yoga blocks and wedges
- Natural, chemical-free cleaning supplies
- 100% compostable water bottles
- Use of cloth towels rather than paper ones for cleaning as often as possible
Off the mat:
- Our website is hosted by Green Geeks: an eco-friendly web server that was invited in 2009 to join the US Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partner program.
- Reduction of paper use by the utilizing the internet for registration and announcements
- All printed items are on recycled paper
- Most of our instructors live a short distance from the studio or stack their classes, minimizing our carbon footprint by reducing the need for driving
- Advertising and marketing is done primarily using email and social network, rather than flyers
- We purposely and actively support local businesses as much as possible
- We recycle all our mats each year by donating them to local charities
- We are committed to charitable endeavors
- We have a strong volunteer program that helps individuals afford classes who otherwise could not
Do you see any other places where we could be darker green while you practice, teach and learn with Rasamaya? Please send suggestions to carrie@rasamaya.com. We are grateful for your thoughtful help!
