About the foundersLighter was founded by two friends, Alexis Fox and Jessica Marker, who lived across the hall from each other in Washington DC. One spring they decided to help each other lose weight because Alexis gained weight during law school and Jess wanted to slim down for her wedding. Once a week for about six months the friends would weigh each other in and then spend an hour at Jess's kitchen table chatting about the week's victories and set-backs. Together they kept each other inspired, in balance and engaged in developing a new relationship to food. They soon turned to books and articles for additional insight and used the literature to deepen their process. After successfully meeting their weight loss goals, Jess and Alexis decided to bring the lessons they had learned from those hours of conversation to their friends who were also struggling to lose weight. Jess is an educator and Alexis is an advocate. The women mixed their professional skills with insight attained during their weight loss journey to create a vibrant, inspiring ten week class. Both women find true joy in helping others establish healthy eating habits and guiding them towards lighter lives. |
